How To Find a Book

Definition: CATALOG - The holdings of a library. Usually includes whole items (books, journals). Can take the form of electronic database, card catalog, or printed volumes.

A major information resource of the library is the book collection. The book collection has been chosen by faculty and librarians to support the college programs and to provide supplementary information. Use the TIGER to access Tutt Library's holdings.

Consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings volumes as an aid to the correct subject used in the catalogs. Examples of possible subject headings are:

China - History
Japanese Art
Geography - India
Korean literature

Begin your search for a book in the TIGER. It is the on-line catalog of Tutt Library. Computers are located throughout the library with the largest concentration in the reference area on the first floor.

Call Numbers

Library of Congress (LC) Classification

Most books listed in the TIGER are given LC classification numbers. The LC number looks like this:
DS 59 W3

Books on Asia in general are found under DS

Dewey Decimal Classification

Older material or material not found in The Tiger Catalog are still classified in the Dewey Decimal System Dewey numbers look like this:
