Festival Dates: June 26 - July 15, 2011 Registration Deadline: May 9, 2011 "The thing i loved most about the festival
was being able to discover just how universal a language dance is. Doing
contact improv with people who didn't speak any English could have posed
a problem, but because we all understood the idea of dance, we were able
to communicate on a level that extended far beyond words. It was a really
enlightening experience! In addition, there really isn't anything like
being able to focus solely on dance for 3 weeks straight. It was like
living in a fantasty world for a few weeks!" Since 2001, the Colorado College Dance Festival has been a part of the Summer Festival of the Arts at Colorado College. The three-week intensive program includes a full day of classes on modern technique and diverse dance forms such as aerial dance, capoeira, asian movement practices, contact improvisation, hip-hop, and Authentic Movement. Evening activities include performances, movies, and open rehearsal space for student choreographers who wish to create works that will be showcased in the Young Artist Concert, a fully produced performance featured on the last day of the festival. Our mission is to support dance education and performance by fostering a creative environment where all dancers, including students and members of the community, can come together to cultivate the intrinsic value of the many facets of dance. |
