October:

10/06 - Preview Showing of the 2004 Boulder Shoot-Out, WES Room, 7:30 P.M. - Michael Conti makes short films; in fact, he has been delivering a short film a month for almost three years. Since returning to Colorado from the West Coast, Michael has founded Group101 Films Colorado, which has become the largest content provider of short films in the state through its membership of directors, writers and technicians. The Shoot Out Boulder 24-hour filmmaking festival is natural extension of the creative process that Michael encourages in his own work, the work of others, and the classes that he teaches through local schools. Michael also runs Alchemy Four, a multimedia company located in Longmont that provides digital video and web services to a wide range of clients. Come see ten films from the previous 24-hr film festival.

10/08 - Bonfire and Bands, Armstrong Quad, 8:00 P.M. - Come chill (get it) by the annual homecoming bonfire and hear the great music this campus has to offer through a wide-range of student bands. Brought to you by Livesounds and The Homecoming Committee.

10/08-10/10 - The War Room, WES Room, 7:30 P.M. - "This peek behind the Clinton scenes shows that Carville's gifts extend from focusing ("It's the economy, stupid") to keeping the staff and the candidate in tune to his relentless rhythm. Watching Carville and Stephanopoulos manipulate the media by playing both footsie and hardball makes for a wickedly funny and irreverent lesson in '90s power politics." -Peter Travers Brought to you by FilmSeries.

10/14 - Ari Hest, McHugh Commons, 12:30 P.M. - Ari has visited our campus in the past and has always been a hit with his distinct voice and laid-back style.

10/15-10/17 - Fahrenheit 9/11, WES Room, 7:30 P.M. - "Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore examines the Bush administration's financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family in FAHRENHEIT 9/11, a well-researched, fast-paced, highly controversial, and important documentary that won the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Using actual footage and declassified documents, Moore takes a detailed look into political events both before and after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, beginning with the polarizing Supreme Court decision that ultimately gave the state of Florida and the 2000 election to George W. Bush. Moore reveals how the U.S. government helped the bin Laden family return to Saudi Arabia immediately after September 11, when all other flights were still grounded; and examines military recruiting techniques in such poor areas as his own hometown of Flint, Michigan. He even attempts to get congressmen to enlist their own sons and daughters into the military. The writer-director also visits with the troops, including at a VA hospital where soldiers are having second thoughts about America's involvement in Iraq, and spends time with a family whose eldest son is fighting in Iraq. FAHRENHEIT 9/11 is a worthy successor to Moore's previous documentaries, ROGER & ME, THE BIG ONE, and BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, once again shining a light on the past, present, and future of the US." - RottenTomatoes.com Brought to you by FilmSeries

10/22-10/24, Journeys with George, WES Room, 7:30 P.M. - An unprecedented, all-access pass to candidate George W. Bush in the months before he won the closest and most controversial presidential election in history. Eighteen months. Thousands of miles, millions of handshakes. A presidential campaign is much more than 60 seconds on the nightly news. An all-access pass to the closest and most controversial presidential election in history, the America Undercover documentary JOURNEYS WITH GEORGE takes an unprecedented look at candidate George W. Bush "unplugged." This revealing, often irreverent, account of the future president on the campaign trail. -- © HBO Brought to you by FilmSeries
