Alternative Soil Preparation Method

By laying down newspapers over the grass we are able to kill the grass without tilling the soil, thereby maintaining soil integrity. We then cover the newspaper with a thick layer of compost, water it, and can begin planting. Over time the newpaper will decompose along with the dead grass below it and in future years this section of the farm should be more productive than other sections in which standard tilling methods were used to prepare the soil.
