Thesis Templates for Microsoft Word
Instructions
-
Left click on the link for the template you would like to use, e.g. “Title Page.”

Notice that the template opens in your browser as a word “.dot” file. “. dot” is the template.
-
Do not start pasting text into the template at this point
-
Under the File menu in your browser, go to save as.

In the “save in” drop down box, select your student H drive. Your H drive is a backed up network drive and is the most secure place to store your data, except your personal computer’s hard drive
-
Rename the document if you wish.
-
Click on save or hit return.
-
After you have saved the template, simply open up the file in Microsoft Word.
-
Once you have opened the template in word, you can begin to make changes to the template. You can cut and paste your information in, or simply replace the “your name” with “George B. Student”
-
It is good practice to save early and save often. In word, under file, click on save. Note that the .dot has changed to “.doc” Select where you want to save the document and give it a name.
-
Remember: You need to first get the template into Word and change it from a “.dot” to a “.doc”
-
SAVE SAVE SAVE!!! Make backup copies to secure places like your personal hard drive and your “H” drive. Avoid floppy disks at all times. Any magnetic source or even vibrations can very easily corrupt a floppy (speakers, computer, TV, etc) and no one wants to loose data.
