Welcome to Colorado College and the 2003 College & University Environmental Management Conference (CUEMC). We are pleased to host this important and meaningful conference here at the foot of beautiful Pikes Peak. I think you will find the pristine beauty of the Pikes Peak region will serve as a reminder of the role we all play in demonstrating environmental stewardship on our campuses.
While the conference will afford everyone an opportunity to participate in technical exchanges, it is the renewing of old friendships, the meeting of new colleagues, and the cementing of professional relationships that will be as important. From the smallest college to the largest university we have challenges that are centered on the same issues, even if the solutions may be different. The common bond is the people working together to ensure a safe learning environment for our students, faculty and staff and a sustainable environment for everyone. I believe that everyone attending this conference will find several “golden nuggets” to take back to their campus. We encourage you to attend and take advantage of this beautiful location, the excellent educational programs and the camaraderie of your peers.
- Gary L. Reynolds, Colorado College Director of Facilities Services

I'm delighted to coordinate the 2003 College & University Environmental Management Conference for you. I chose to mark the 21st year of the College & University Hazardous Waste Conference (CUHWC) by recognizing the expanded role in campus operations this conference has served for the better part of the last decade. Thus the new conference name - CUEMC.
I'm also very pleased to have Frank Hammitt, Risk Management and Safety Officer from Colorado University-Colorado Springs as a co-host. Engaging Excellence is our theme this year, and we hope that you'll find the conference to be all of that and more. We hope you'll come early, stay late, and bring the family. Colorado is a wonderful place to live - we hope you'll find it a wonderful place to visit, learn, and enjoy the company of friends.
- John S. DeLaHunt, Colorado College Environmental Health & Safety Manager
