Colorado College has received a gift of a collection of electronic books through the Worldnet Literacy Foundation. The gift, valued at $100,000, allowed Tutt Library to purchase approximately 1500 electronic books from netLibrary, an electronic library service based in Boulder. Tutt librarians selected titles from netLibrary holdings that support the Colorado College curriculum or reflect current popular research topics among students. A second collection of about 2000 titles has also been acquired through a consortial purchase (BCR), adding a number of more general interest and popular titles that reflect the diverse interests of the member libraries. Colorado College users may find and use a netLibrary book in two ways. All netLibrary books are cataloged in TIGER and may be retrieved through subject or keyword searches along with cataloged print resources. For example, a keyword search of "fetishism" will retrieve a list of titles including "From Hegel to Madonna," a netLibrary title. Clicking on the link "view electronic book" will connect the user to netLibrary and the text of the book. You may view the text online, "borrow" the book so that you have exclusive use of the title for the loan period, print single pages or cut and paste excerpts. No, you cannot print out an entire book! Users may also go directly to the netLibrary home page and conduct searches of the electronic book collection. Find the link on the Tutt home page under Electronic Books, or netLibrary. A netLibrary trainer will be conducting a session for library staff and anyone else who is interested April 6, 12:30 PM in the TLC classroom, south basement of Tutt. Please join us!

Explore Government Publications on the Web Some of you are familiar with the collection of U.S. government documents in Tutt. Did you know that through the Tutt Library Web page under "Government Documents" you could find a much wider world of government publications (federal, state, local, and international)? The Tutt Web pages link to U.S. Congressional, Executive Departmental, and Judiciary serial publications like the Congressional Record, Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents, Federal Register. You may also find monographic publications like the text of laws recently passed, court decisions, civil war maps from the Library of Congress, information and maps of countries from the CIA's World Fact Book, exhibits in the new Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, or an update on Colorado's lynx population from the Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources. Water flow of Colorado's rivers and streams available from the United States Geological Survey might be of interest to those who like to fish. Tutt's Government Documents Web pages were created and updated by Monica Davis, Documents Coordinator.
Foreign Broadcast Information Service now Online For many years Tutt has received translations of broadcast and news reports from cities all over the globe from the CIA (Foreign Broadcast Information Reports). Two new electronic resources recently purchased by the library provide current access to these reports and indexing for reports published since 1977. World News Connection, 1995 gives online access to FBIS daily reports up to the current week. The CD ROM index to reports, 1977 1996, is loaded on all computer stations behind the Reference Desk, as are the full text reports with indexing, 1996- 1998. Full text reports from 1978 1996 are in microfiche format and filed in the Government Documents area, 1st floor south. You will find a handout on the FBIS collection near the Reference Desk.
March 27-April 19. The library will waive library fines for CC students who donate canned goods. Donated food will be given to the food kitchen in Shove Chapel. This offer does not apply to lost materials or for fines accrued on recalled books. For more information, check at the Circulation Desk.
