Reference Services -- Here to Help You

The world of information is increasingly complex, from the wild and wooly Web, to licensed online research databases, document delivery services, traditional print resources, primary sources… Whether you are just beginning a research project or have run into an obstacle, the librarians at the reference desk can help. They will help you plan your research strategy, teach you how to use TIGER and library research databases, help you find full text and print journal articles, find government information, maps, and videos. We love your questions! (phone Ext. 6662)

Library Computing News

Logging In
All computers in Tutt Library now require users to log in with a CC computer network account and password. One advantage for CC users is that you will now be able to save files to your H drive. As always, the computers on the first, second, and third floors are reserved for library and Web research and do not have application software.

New Lab Computers
The computers in the north basement have the same application software as other public labs on campus and are managed by ITS. There are 21 PC's, one MAC and two printers. This equipment is managed by the campus computing service (ITS) and lab monitors are available to help you use the equipment.

Laptops: Plugged, Unplugged

Wireless Network
Wireless hubs now cover the library. Students who wish to use their laptops anywhere in the library should contact the Help Desk at ITS for specs on wireless cards that are compatible with the network: http://www.coloradocollege.edu/helpdesk/Documentation/wireless.htm

Network Ports
There are many network ports throughout the building where you can plug in your laptop. Active ports are marked with green stickers. They are concentrated around the perimeter walls of the second and third floors near the study carrels.

New Audio Visual Equipment

A newly outfitted AV room in the North Basement has six viewing stations for videos and DVD's.

Study Spaces

Group Studies
There are two group studies on the north end of the third floor. The garden area computer lab (basement north) is also designated for group work. The library is developing a few more options for group work.

Quiet Study Space/Carrel Reservations
Students seeking a quiet place to study will find refuges on the perimeters of the second and third floor north, in the Government Documents area (1st floor south) and the study area outside Special Collections (2nd floor south). Individual study carrels may be reserved for a block, check at the Circulation Desk.

Late Nights
The library keeps the north basement computer labs and study areas open until 4:00 am the last two nights of each block. The library hires a student monitor and sponsors snacks for the night owls, and CC Security provides a guard.

Recommending a Book

Recommendations from students are welcome. Use the book request form on the TIGER catalog to submit your requests to the Acquisitions Department. Students should be advised that materials needed for an immediate research project should be requested via Prospector or ILL rather than requested as additions to the library's collection, as the review, acquisition and cataloging process takes more time.

Prospector - Access to Over 13 Million Items

Prospector may be used to obtain library materials for study and research that are not available at Colorado College but are available from other participating Prospector libraries. Prospector is a unified catalog of sixteen academic, public and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming. Through Prospector you have access to over 13 million books and other materials held in these libraries, subject to availability. Delivery takes 3-10 days. Ask a reference librarian for more information.

Van to Boulder

Tutt Library provides round-trip transportation to CC students by van to the University of Colorado at Boulder Library on the first, second, and third Saturdays of the block. You must sign up by Friday at 2 p.m. Find more information on the library web page. As Tutt Library expands access to online databases of journal articles, many of the resources that students used to travel to Boulder to find are now available at Tutt. Ask a reference librarian to help you find materials and online resources before you travel!
