title: The Kappa Sigma Alumni & Friends Charity Golf Tournament
description: Dear Alumni and Friends,
This year Colorado College’s Beta-Omega Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has decided to host a charity golf tournament benefiting the National Down Syndrome Congress. For those of you unfamiliar with this chapter, this is a very special cause for us. As Beta-Omegas, we have had the privilege of calling Todd Martz a brother since 1994. Born with Down syndrome in 1972, Todd has far surpassed the expectations initially set for his life, and much of his success is attributed to his experience with Kappa Sigma. Even today, at 36 years old, Todd continues to live and spend most of his time with members of Kappa Sigma. Todd’s mother, Judy, has spent several years serving the Down syndrome community as past president and Board of Directors member of the National Down Syndrome Congress, an organization aimed at bringing individuals with Down syndrome into communities rather than isolating them.
Over the course of the past year, the National Down Syndrome Congress has launched a “We’re More Alike Than Different” campaign to raise awareness among doctors, teachers, employers, and everyday people. So far, NDSC has raised over $500,000 to promote a national campaign of public service announcements. The message is simple, compelling and delivered by self advocates. For more information about the “We’re More Alike” campaign or to view the TV spots please visit the National Down Syndrome Congress website at www.ndsccenter.org.
This year’s tournament will be held at the Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs on Saturday May 2nd. The cost is $100 per player (which includes cart, tee favors, tournament prizes, and a cocktail party immediately following the tournament for all participants). Check-In for the tournament will be at 11:00 a.m. There is limited space available so please sign up soon. I hope that you will be able to join us or participate in some fashion in what we hope will become an annual event as we come together to help this special cause.
