PARKING AT COLORADO COLLEGE

Important:

  • Permit Application for the 2012 - 2013 academic year will begin on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 8 AM. More information will follow in flash messages.
  • We have had several reports of permit holders being displaced by non-permitted vehicles in the evening hours, particularly in the west campus parking lots. If you have opted not to purchase a permit this year, please be respectful of your fellow students, faculty, and staff that have purchased a space and do not park on campus at any time.
  • The fire lanes throughout campus are not to be used for loading and unloading. We are allowed an exception to this rule by the CSPD only during move-in in August and move-out in May when Campus Safety personnel are on site to direct traffic. If you park in fire lanes, you will be subject to ticketing and towing.
  • Please note the new changes to the parking program detailed below.

Permit Application Day 2012

On May 2, 2012 beginning at 8 AM, the 2012-2013 parking permit application open-enrollment process will begin. The link on the left will go active at 8 AM on May 2, 2012. At that time, you may click on the link and complete your application for a 2012-2013 parking permit. Here are some frequently asked questions to make your application process run more smoothly:

Q: I dont have the car I will be driving yet/ I dont know the license plate number of the car I will be driving, what should I put in that field?

A: Just use the plate number, make and color of another vehicle you or your family own to complete the application. We can update the system later once you get your new vehicle or remember your license plate number.

Q: I want to apply for a spring semester permit, how do I do that and when will I get billed?

A: In the drop down menu for "Permit Duration", you can select either Fall Semester, Spring Semester, or Annual. You will not be billed for any permit until you pick it up in the fall.

Q: I am a residential or commercial tenant (including all college employees living on campus), which option should I select?

A: All college staff living on campus should indicate themselves as an employee and select your salary range. However, you should then send an email to parking@coloradocollege.edu and tell us which building you will be living in so that we can remove you from the normal lottery and assign you a tenant permit. This does not apply to students living in Breton Hall (1131 N Cascade).

Q: I am a student living off campus next year in a building managed by Sunflower. Where am I allowed to park? Am I not allowed to park in the E1 lot?

A: The designated spaces provided for sunflower tenants near the E1 lot are located in two blacktop sub-lots. One is directly to the west and behind 1108 N. Weber St, and the other is on the northeast side of the lot between 229 E. Uintah St and 1124 N. Weber St. If you would like to purchase a permit for the E1 lot and avoid parking on the stree, you are welcome to do so.

If you have any other questions or can think of anything we could add to this FAQ, please contact the Parking Office at 719-389-6888.

Connect by Hertz is now Hertz on Demand

CC is excited to continue to offer a car rental service to students, faculty, and staff, but the name has changed. "Connect by Hertz" is now known as "Hertz on Demand". Click here to view the informational brochure. Click here (or on the link in the left column) to access the "On Demand " web site.

UPDATE: The parking space for the Prius has moved! You can now pick up and return the Prius to the south side of Mathias Hall! We are asking everyone to be respectful of the parking regulations in that area and not park personal vehicles in the On Demand space. If this becomes a problem, we will start towing vehicles.

New Changes to the Parking System:

Several changes were made to the parking system over the summer that are now in effect for the academic year.

1. For the sake of clarity, two new violations have been adopted: "Wrong Permit for Lot" citations will be issued to permitted vehicles that are not parked in the correct area, and "Overtime Parking" citations will be issued to vehicles parked in excess of the posted time limit on 15 and 30 minute temporary spaces. These two citations replace the older "Illegal Parking" violation. The base amount for these tickets will be $10, and will follow the escalating fine policy established for Illegal Parking citations.

2. The 8 permit spaces directly adjacent to Montgomery Hall are no longer part of the W3 parking lot. They have been reserved for Admissions Guests only, as indicated by the new signs in the area. If you park in these spaces, you will receive a $75 ticket and could be towed. Please respect the reserved parking spaces on campus and help us better serve our prospective student population.

3. New directional signs have been placed throughout campus better identifying one-way traffic areas. These signs were placed to prevent traffic accidents, and we strongly urge all motorists to obey them. Vehicles observed in violation of these one-way traffic regulations will be ticketed.

4. In an effort to make better use of our available parking spaces, the rules regarding where you should park if your assigned lot is full have been changed. You are now allowed to park in the E1 Northeast Campus parking lot if you cannot find an open space in your assigned lot. You are still allowed to park in the closest available "Paid Visitor Parking" area, but we encourage people to try parking in the E1 lot so that those visitor spaces can be left available for visitors to campus.

Effective Hours and Dates:

Parking on Colorado College property is by permit only, and is enforced Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM. Parking is not enforced on College approved holidays. Parking is free during the summer session, though non-permitted guests are asked to utilize the E1 and C1 lots.

Appeals Process:

The Colorado College traffic committee welcomes all new and returning drivers to our campus. It is important that all faculty, staff, and students using motor vehicles on campus familiarize themselves with the Parking and Traffic Regulations, as well as carefully observing the various traffic signs posted throughout the campus. Drivers should take extra care to use only the parking area permitted by their hangtag. Do not park in the surrounding neighborhoods where private homes are located. If parking is difficult in the area you have been assigned, please discuss the situation with the Assistant Director of Campus Safety. Be aware that traffic regulations are strictly enforced.

If a ticket is received under extenuating circumstances, it may be appealed online by filling out the provided online appeals form, or by sending an email to ParkingViolations@coloradocollege.edu. Please include your name, CCID number (if applicable), and ticket number in any appeals to insure that the appeal is properly processed. Incomplete appeals will be disregarded. An unbiased third party will review appeals, and responses mailed or e-mailed to the address provided. Appeals must be made within two (2) business days after the date of issuance, or the right to appeal is forfeit.
