      Quinn Webb '16 received the Robin Satterwhite Thesis Award. She is now working at Larimer Lounge, where she tackles "every aspect of event creation: promotions, audiovisual, booking, and general planning."

    • Shannon McCarthy '16 received the Robert Rubin Prize in Political Economy. She is currently working as a GIS Intern at Arrowstreet Inc. where she manages and utilizes data to produce campus master plans for military bases using ArcGIS.

    • William Richmond '15 received the Bruni Award for submitting his senior thesis for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. He is currently teaching at AmeriCorps and working as a Ski Instructor in Crested Butte.

    • Gavin Nachbar '14 was the recipient of the Robert E. Rubin Award in Mathematical Economics, Ray O. Werner Thesis Award, and the Van Skilling Award. After graduation, he went on to work at Dropbox in Sales Strategy. He currently works at Premise Data.

    • Yao Sun ’20 was the recipient of the Kenneth J. and Elizabeth Hare Curran Award. Aspiring to pursue a career in business, she interned and will work as a financial analyst at Shenwan Hongyuan Securities Co., Ltd., 7th ranked Securities Company in China.

    The department offers several different awards for students who have performed extraordinarily within the department. Short descriptions of the award follow.

    Kenneth J. and Elizabeth Hare Curran Award

    The Kenneth J. and Elizabeth Hare Curran Award is given each year to the outstanding senior graduate in Economics. The award is given in memory of Professor Kenneth J. Curran and his wife, Elizabeth Hare Curran. He was a beloved teacher of economics, chairman of the department, and dean of the college.

    Kenneth J. Curran Award

    The Kenneth J. Curran Award is the result of Curran’s deep commitment to the liberal arts ideal. It is given to the graduate in economics with the highest academic average in courses taken in the divisions of humanities and natural sciences, with a minimum of nine units outside the Economics Department.

    Robert William Kaye Award

    The Robert William Kaye Award is presented to the outstanding economics major with strong performance in business courses. Robert Kaye was a business major in the Class of 1941. He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps and was killed in action in March 1944. This award was established by the family and friends of Captain Kaye.

    Robert Rubin Award in Political Economy

    This award is given to the outstanding senior graduate in international political economy.

    Robert Rubin Award in Mathematical Economics

    This award is given to the outstanding senior graduate in mathematical economics.

    Harold S. Geneen Charitable Trust Senior Thesis Stipend Award in Corporate Social Responsibility

    Presented to the student(s) who successfully completed senior thesis research in the areas of business ethics, responsible corporate governance and corporate social responsibility.

    Robert E. Pizzi Scholars

    Presented to the graduating majors who exemplify a commitment to all aspects of college life including both academic success AND involvement in athletics, student government, community service, and/or extracurricular activities.

    Ray O. Werner Thesis Award

    Presented to the graduating senior who has written the most outstanding senior thesis. 

    Robin Satterwhite Thesis Award

    Presented to the graduating senior who has done outstanding innovative independent research, either towards his/her senior thesis or some other economics project.

    Jerome V. Bruni Research Award

    Presented to senior thesis writers who show promise to produce their thesis results in a peer reviewed journal or to present the paper at a peer reviewed academic meeting. 

    Phi Beta Kappa

    Presented to student(s) recommended by the faculty to join the Phi Beta  Kappa Society. Students are selected based on their exemplary academic record and civic achievement, including breadth of inquiry in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.
