

Title IX & Nondiscrimination
Colorado College is committed to an environment that is safe and conducive to learning, living, and working. As such, the college does not discriminate and does not tolerate discrimination against students, faculty, staff, applicants for admission and employment, and visitors, in its education programs and activities and its employment practices on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, disability, religion, veteran status, age or any other status protected under local, state or federal law.
Title IX
Title IX is part of the federal Education Amendments Act of 1972. This law prohibits sex-based discrimination under any education program or activity including, but not limited to, student services and academic programs, admissions, financial aid, academic advising, housing, athletics, recreational services, residential life programs, health services, counseling and psychological services, Registrar's office, recruitment, and employment/employment services. Although Title IX is a brief statute, the scope is very broad.
Title VI
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in programs or activities which receive federal financial assistance. . Programs or activities may include, but are not limited to, admissions, recruitment, financial aid, academic programs, student treatment and services, counseling and guidance, discipline, classroom assignment, grading, recreation, athletics, housing, and employment, if it affects those who are intended to benefit from the Federal funds
Title VII
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employers from discriminating on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, and religion. Title VII applies to all employees of the college and requires nondiscrimination with regard to any term, condition, or privilege of employment including, but not limited to, recruitment and selection, promotions, training, discipline, terminations, performance measurement, and compensation and benefits.
ADAAA/Section 504
The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, State and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunication.
Similar to the ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits entities who receive federal funding from discriminating against individuals with a disability. Section 504 requires educational institutions to afford students with disabilities with equal opportunities "to obtain the same result, to gain the same benefit, or to reach the same level of achievement" as students without disabilities.

Colorado College does not discriminate and does not tolerate discrimination against students, faculty, staff, applicants for admission and employment, and visitors, in its education programs and activities and its employment practices on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, marital status, disability, religion, veteran status, age or any other status protected under local, state or federal law.
The college further believes that students, faculty, staff, applicants for admission and employment, and visitors have the right to be free from retaliation for reporting or participating in the investigation of alleged violations of this policy or in any related proceeding, including a criminal proceeding or a proceeding with a government agency.
